Attic planning

Choose the attic boundary first

Choose the ceiling plane or the roofline. Do not mix the two by accident.

Repair roof and moisture problems

Resolve leaks, wet materials, staining causes, and drainage defects before insulation makes the roof deck harder to inspect.

Map heat sources and services

Locate flues, chimneys, recessed fixtures, wiring, ducts, fans, plumbing, access, and equipment before planning air sealing.

For attic floors, seal first

At the ceiling plane, close penetrations and bypasses while preserving required clearances and intended ventilation, then add insulation.

For rooflines, design every transition

Connect slopes, gables, eaves, party walls, skylights, attic access, and lower walls into one continuous enclosure.

Coordinate HVAC and ventilation

Changing the boundary can change duct location, equipment conditions, ventilation, humidity, and pressure. Review the whole system.

Plan protection and inspection

Confirm exact product instructions, thickness limits, thermal or ignition protection, local review, and what must remain visible.

Keep the handover record

Save product documents, lot, conditions, areas, thickness checks, photos, ventilation decisions, repairs, and inspection results.
